Of glorious charge

#31 - The Rich Rain Roars

Alliteration is one of my favourite poetry techniques, so this rain-inspired micropoem is a tribute to this repetitive form.

Pounding pace,

As the rich rain roars,

Drives the depth of darkness deeper,

Beautiful blackness of the night.

Sometimes life's challenges are only emphasised when emotions are involved.  When someone wrongs you in relationship, the heart burns stronger than anything before.

A mantra for living is another great way to survive tough days.  Whenever I feel stressed something along the lines of the following pops into my head.  A reminder that learning to deal with tough times really does make us stronger. =) x

That you face every day.

#28 - Dreaming to Succeed

Sometimes it's worth remembering that you can achieve anything helps even the most tedious day turn into something positive.  Whenever under stress or pressure, I start to feel more and more motivated to achieve something great.

Yearnings for greatness

Build up slowly inside us.

Thunderstorms brewing.

#27 - Hidden Depths

Sometimes emotions surprise us, they come out with such intense force from places in our soul that we didn't yet understand.

Inside our soul,

Lies the strength that we are yet to find, 

Hidden beside the tears that we are yet to cry,

And the love that we are yet to give.

#26 - Just Before My Eyes Close

The time just before sleep is quite a magical thing, lying in a warm cocoon of duvet, watching the lights of the street dance on the ceiling before the darkness becomes dreams.

Restful embrace of the cool, dark night,

Beautiful shadows cast by the light,

Envelops my eyes with their perfect disguise,

Everything feeling just right.

#25 - Love's Sweet Moments

Love is something that we always try to explain, yet never quite can capture the true intensity of the moments we feel, drifting inside us, around us and throughout us.

His strong, dexterous hands embraced hers

A gesture embodying a thousand sentiments

All too beautiful to express with words.

#24 - Inspire to Achieve

A common theme in what I write, but so true, that the more you dream and inspire yourself to success, the more driven a person you become.  Achieving goals is a great happiness driver.

Impossible dreams of perpetual heights, 

Reach for the sky again and again. 

Lusting for justice, 

Hid within truth. 

They light the fire. 

#23 - Changing Fortunes

Life often gives you terrible, daily challenges to face, but it's always worth remembering that there is something beyond the moment of that challenge.  If you keep looking forward and seizing every moment then you will always have something to keep you going through hard times.

Perfect end to a troublesome day, 

That ended well but started raw. 

Reach the stars, 

For each new day, 

Try the handle to every door.

#22 - The Skies on Fire

Some of the most beautiful things we see in the sky at night are actually hugely destructive events flooding through our universe across millions of year.  We look back in time to see the most incredible happenings.

Catastrophic collisions of celestial bodies, 

Flows of light and life. 

Illustrious spheres. 

Shimmer on new stars

Shining bright.

#21 - A Friendship of Everything

Sometimes people just overwhelm you (in a good way) with how good friends they are to you.  To those people in my world, you're all amazing.

For all the stars

In all the heavens,

Every drop of their unfathomable beauty, 

Ugly.

Compared to a friendship like ours.

Another astronomy-inspired poem, a literal interpretation of light years - where you effectively look further back in time the further away you look...

Time and space bending like a blur of beautiful confusion. 

Long dead star still taking life.

#18 - The Gravity of Attraction

Was watching a fantastic programme on astronomy and the incredible imagery it painted with the stars blew me away.  This was the first in a short series of micropoems inspired by this...

Two suns, 

In space, 

Travel a million miles a day.

#17 - Dozing

The inspiration for this one is probably quite obvious - curled up in bed on Sunday morning...

Light creeping in to my bedroom, 

Curving around the shield of the blinds. 

Like a square halo, it glows. 

#16 - She, the Traveller

This was inspired by plans to go travelling, and the stories people told as we were discussing countries. Some of the most interesting people are well travelled, and it seems to add to their allure.

A graceful willow,

She floats across seas. 

Entrancing continents like the first rains of spring. 

Beauty unending.

#15 - Waterfall of Dreams

There was the most incredible amount of rain one night in November, and as I lay away listening to it dance against the window it inspired this poem.

Torrents of water pound on my skin, 

Deafeningly loud. 

Fractured light shattering like glass, 

As i stand in this waterfall of dreams.

#14 - The Words We Speak

Sometimes this whole writing thing makes you so aware of how precious moments in life are.  Embrace every moment, and live with any mistakes, as you only have one chance.

Words. 

What are words?

I push buttons on the phone and words appear.

Is it the same?

The same as writing?

#13 - The Music in Our Souls

Live music is one of my great passions, almost any style as long as the crowd is really enjoying it.  Elegant or just plan crazy, it's an amazing rush to be in the crowd.

Fever-pitched excitement building, 

Crazy like a riot, 

Mad like a dream. 

Terrifying, 

But amazing. 

#12 - Life on Mars?

The NASA Mars rovers are amazing, lasting so far beyond their expected lifetimes - sending amazing images back and fascinating insights into the red planet.  Will be really interesting to see what future missions bring back after they finally cease working.

Spirit and opportunity

Beautiful moments happen everywhere in the universe - on Earth, in the stars and beyond.  It's all about taking the time to stop and appreciate them.

#9 - Dreaming of the Southern Hemisphere

In the Northern hemisphere, our view of the skies is somewhat restricted.  I have never been below the Equator, but it's definitely on my to do list, as Auroras are just so stunning, as is the Milky Way.

Beautiful universe, 

Swimming around us.

#8 - In Time is Wisdom

Sometimes we don't take enough time to listen, to the wonderful memories older people have.  A whole life spent living, and all the time in the world to listen.

Beautiful man with ashen hair, 

Breathing softly with gentle stare.  

Amazing moments flash through his eyes, 

Memories past but still alive.

#7 - Sunset, so sudden

As summer fades to Autumn, it's impossible not to notice how quickly the light fades away.  It seems like you've wasted the day, until winter comes and the nights seem magical with their frosty glow.

Where has the daylight gone today?

The last glimpse of summer fleeting as it fades away. 

Over the horizon it's gone. 

#6 - Timid Little Souls

We got hamsters this year, Russian ones.  They are so insanely timid that it makes me laugh, even after 6 months the only thing that seems to sooth them is hamster chocolate.

Door creeks, I freeze. 

Stood motionless. 

Breathing. 

Unflinching. 

Without warning i duck away. 

Scared little hamster that i am today.

Would you believe this one was inspired by my weekly pub quiz with my friends?  It's amazingly satisfying to actually know some of the answers sometimes...

Such an enlightening moment, 

When the knowledge you desire 

Is not just a distant star, 

But a burning ember 

Within your own soul.

#4 - Wishing on a Star

Longing staring out of my bedroom window, the stars always blow me away.  Having lived in the heart of the city for many years I moved to the suburbs, and finally the sky was filled with stars instead of light pollution - beautiful and inspiring.

I wished I may with all my might, 

at the star I saw that night, 

to see my dreams and make them shine, 

with the light I feel inside.

My job means I spend a lot of my time thinking about the sun, and it inspires a lot of my poetry.  It's such a precious, yet vicious force.
